AI visibility for physical therapists in the US
Someone with back pain asks AI where to go. Does it name your clinic?
More patients now self-refer, and they research before they book. ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews return two or three clinics with a reason attached to each. A clinic missing from that list is not compared and not rejected. It is simply absent.
Free. Can a machine read your site: structured data, crawler access, page speed. Emailed in minutes, no card.
The full audit: every reason AI skips you, the competitors it names instead, and a ranked list of fixes.
Nothing records this. Your analytics can only count the people who arrived.
This is what the assistant actually answers
Real ChatGPT answer · September 2026
"best physical therapy clinic in Cambridge, Massachusetts"
"[Clinic A], best overall for individualized care. 5.0 from 118 reviews, one-on-one, performance-oriented treatment. Particularly appealing for athletes and active adults. [Clinic B], best for athletes, 5.0 from 62 reviews, with one-hour one-on-one sessions. [Clinic C], best conventional in-network option."
It sorted clinics by who they are for: athletes, individualized care, in-network. A clinic that states who it treats gets matched to that patient. One that says it treats everyone gets matched to nobody.
We asked ChatGPT this question in September 2026 and quoted the answer. The clinic names are removed: they did not ask to appear here, and the point is the shortlist, not who was on it that day.
Now try it for your city
Open ChatGPT and ask it this:
best physical therapy clinic in [your city]
Read the clinics it names. If yours is missing, the rest of this page is about why, and what you can check today.
One answer is a glimpse, not a measurement. Our guide on checking whether ChatGPT recommends your business shows how to do it properly in about twenty minutes, scorecard included.
Why AI cannot see your clinic
AI assistants do not read your whole website and work your details out from the text. They work to a budget and pick up facts that are already stated plainly, skipping pages they would have to reason through. So what decides the answer is not how much you have written, it is how easy your key facts are to read.
- Structured data. Schema.org LocalBusiness states your name, address, hours and services in a form a machine reads directly, without parsing your prose. If your site does not carry it, an assistant either pieces your details together from other sources or leaves you out. The free check tells you whether yours is present.
- Facts an assistant can lift. A page that states the answer in its first sentences can be quoted. A page that buries the same facts inside long marketing copy gives the model nothing easy to take, so it reaches for a source that is quicker to read. The free check flags where your key facts are hard to find.
- Your Google Business Profile. For local questions, assistants lean on your Google Business Profile, because it is already structured and standardised. A complete, recently updated profile is the easy answer they reach for. The paid audit checks yours.
Why this is happening now
Google expanded AI Overviews and introduced AI Mode in the US in March 2025. Both answer the question on the page rather than only listing links.
Access is becoming a setting rather than a given. Cloudflare now sorts AI crawlers into three kinds, Search, Agent and Training. From 15 September 2026, for domains newly onboarded to it, Agent and Training bots are blocked by default on pages that carry ads, while Search crawlers stay allowed.
The point is not that you are blocked today. It is that whether an assistant can read your site is now a switch, and most owners have never seen it.

What the free check shows
The free check reads your clinic's site the way an AI crawler does and reports, in plain language: whether your structured data is present and correct, whether your key pages can be read without JavaScript, and whether an AI assistant is being blocked from your site. You get your own numbers, not a general claim about physical therapy clinics across the US. Live testing in ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, with the competitors they name instead, is part of the paid audit.

Questions
Most of our patients come from physician referrals. Why would AI matter?
Referrals bring you the patient who already saw a doctor. Direct access means many never do: they research and book themselves, and the assistant hands them three clinics. Those patients never appear in a referral report.
Does this replace our SEO?
No. It is a measurement, not a retainer. It tells you what a machine can and cannot read on your site today. If someone already does your SEO, the report is something you hand them, in numbers they can act on.
Can you guarantee ChatGPT will start recommending us?
No, and anyone who promises that is guessing. What we can do is find the technical reasons an assistant cannot read or trust your site, which in most cases are fixable, and measure whether that changes over time.
